With just the right balance of romance, intrigue and action, the alien elements aren't overplayed, but work wonderfully together without being predictable. Most importantly, Samantha Hunter is a strong enough character to carry a series, which will certainly draw much interest from fans of the genre.

FROM THE SKY is an edge of your seat mystery, with a sweet romance, while weaving the inevitability of aliens among us. Sam and her  brother are in a car accident, where her brother dies. If a stranger did not stop by and give assistance to her, she would have died also. After that day her life is altered forever. Since the accident Sam's hair and one of her eyes had changed colors. No one knows why this happened. Her father is given a position at the college in New Mexico and they move there from Pittsburgh. When they move, things start to happen at her new school that she cannot explain, and her life is altered once , For when she finds out that aliens are real and living in her town. This was such a great book. I have never read anything like this. The story line and characters were very well-developed.  I recommend it to everyone, and I give FROM THE SKY 5/5 STARS.

From the Sky is a delightful young adult novel by J.E. Nicassio. This exciting book is a blend of government conspiracy novel and sci-fi with a strong element of romance. Samantha Hunter is a very wounded teenager. Her twin brother Finn is killed in a car accident one night and Sam is charged with driving while texting. Sam herself is almost killed in the accident and her mother dies soon after. Sam thinks this is all her fault and the guilt is tearing her apart. Sam and her dad need a change. They need a new lease on life so they move from Pennsylvania to New Mexico. But the past, particularly that fateful accident, follows Samantha to New Mexico in the form of Lucien Foster, a tall handsome boy that Sam finds herself drawn to despite her pain and guilt. 

From the Sky is at its core a teenage romance and we get a good look at young love and what it means to love when everything seems to be against you. Lucien is not what he seems and when he reveals the truth of who he is to Samantha, her world is changed forever. These are great characters that are realistically portrayed. They are American teenagers who have to grow up fast because dark forces are out to get them. J.E. Nicassio gives us a past paced and exciting tale full of car chases, close calls, and the angst of star-crossed love. Teens and even older readers will love From the Sky.

Writing is about opening your soul and letting your vulnerable side shine through. You have to have a thick outer skin. Being an author is not giving in or giving up and never ever listening to the people who said you couldn't do it. You just do it and never give up on your dreams. I have been kicked down and had the wind knocked out of me but something in me kept me going.  I hope you love Sam and Lucien's story as much as I loved writing.

Let me preface by saying I am not a Sci-Fi reader. I primarily stick with suspense writers so this was a new genre for me to try. Since i prefer page-turners, I wasn't expecting to enjoy an alien story at all but since I've set a goal to try new authors every week, I thought 'why not?'.
Now confession time - I absolutely loved this book!! A good writer makes you envision every scene just like you are watching a movie & I actually thought- why this could actually be the beginnings of the next big movie similar to the Divergent or Hunger Games books!! J. E. Nicassio has changed me over to the world of Sci-Fi reading and I honestly had trouble putting the book down. Talk about a page-turner, it held my interest the whole way through the book. I remember, at one point, reading & thinking to myself 'I can't wait to review this book", I was that surprised by the good read. Thank you for opening my eyes to a new genre and I can only hope I enjoy other Sci-Fi writers are as much as I did your work!! I seriously cannot wait for the next in the series!!! You have a new fan J. E. Nicassio!!!... and I hope to see this made into a movie in the future!!

Truly out of this world!

From The Sky, will have you on the edge of your seat from the first page. You get to meet Samantha Hunter,a courageous girl anyone would love to have as a friend, and experience an entire new world you never knew existed right here on Earth! But nothing comes close to the beautiful and breathtaking love she feels for the gorgeous Lucien. A love he just as strongly feels for her too. I give From The Sky five stars and can't wait for the next one!

Really makes the grade!

Sam and Lucien make a great match in a novel that’s full of original ideas and plenty of unexpected surprises to keep you guessing to the end. I wax and wane with this genre because there are too many lack lustre books coming to the market but From The Sky really made the grade for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

All Meat - No Fluff

This is an excellent stock trading manual, the best I have read in 20 years of reading market books. Mr. Guppy writes in a logical easy to read style. Ideas presented in this manual are how to quickly search a data base of stocks, leveraging a small account, the better charting platforms, technical analysis tools, and a stop-loss tool that can be done by mental and visual calculation.
He details how to capture trend break-outs as well as entering an established trend. Plenty of charts and examples. This manual contains important knowledge for novice and experienced traders.

Excellent!

I have read numerous books on stock market investing. Most tell you how to interpret technical indicators and tell you how other people made it, but have been of little use to me in actual trading. This book changed the way I trade, and I am now showing positive returns (except when the Federal Reserve chooses to unexpectedly reshuffle the deck - August 17, 2007).

The lessons are clear cut and easy to understand. They make sense. There is a running exercise throughout the book that engages you to apply what you are learning. I have back-tested this method and applied it to real trading, and have beaten any results I have gotten so far.

The CBL Stop loss is amazing

Very nice book.
The author describes a unique way to identify stocks to trend-trade, using trendlines (straight and parabolic), GMMA (Guppy Multiple Moving Averages, fully discussed here), and the use of Count-Back Lines (CBL) for entry and exit.
Although I don't personally find the GMMA useful, the CBL is an extraordinary stop-loss tool, that enables you to stay in a trend as long as it continues, avoiding intraday shake outs. The CBL also enables you to take your profits as soon as the trend changes. Simply put, it is the best trend-following stop-loss I've ever seen, and use it for all my trend-following positions.

The final section of this book is a revision of the Darvas Box, very interesting.
This book is highly recommended.
If you want more set-ups to enter a trade, Trend Trading For A Living, by Dr. Thomas Carr is a very nice addition.

Trusting Rio

I enjoyed the first book in this series, Asher's Mates. A Fey (Kat) is imprisoned and is rescued by his mate Asher, a blind wolf shifter. Fleeing and seeking sanctuary they head to a coven led by an ancient vampire, Ian. The three are mates and they uncover a conspiracy in the paranormal world and Cameron, someone close to them, is taken.

So this story, Trusting Rio, is a continuation of the characters in the first story. Cameron, a jaguar shifter, is still missing. Rio (Vampire) is doing everything he can to find him and in the midst of searching, a dream walker, Rio's mate Cass, appears. He helps with the search but he has his own limitations.

There's a larger cast of characters in this book and it took me awhile to reacquaint myself. Along with the background came a few misplaced words, two that I caught. Once Ian and Cass start interacting in person the story picked up.

Who knows how long Cass was imprisoned, seeking relief by escaping in astral form. His past is one where he's been taken advantage of and his trust and powers were abused. In short, his outlook on life is tainted, his family gone, and he only has himself to rely on. He wakes up from his rescue scared, distrustful, and can't think why mating will make his life any different. For such a powerful magic user, Cass is insecure. He withheld his concerns and needs from Rio and hides his true nature of being a submissive. Cass wasn't quite a wimpy clingy whiner but it was close at times.

Rio is a five hundred year old vampire, Ian's son. Of course he is an alpha in every sense of the word. He wants control in the bedroom and he loves to explore bondage games with his mate. Thankfully his alpha tendencies are balanced by his caring. The title Trusting Rio is just that - Giving heart, body, and soul into a mate's care and that is done thru trust and love.

SPOILER - Don't read unless you read the book -

The ending: So a soul is bound and it didn't die when the body does. The soul is connected to Rio and he grounds it within himself with his own soul. Okay. So when the mystical magical connect happens somehow Cass is able to astral project a physical body to where he can talk and physically interact with Rio and anyone else. Yet he died and his soul is housed with his magic in Rio. That is what I got out of it, who knows if my imagination led me in the right direction. It still doesn't make sense. I'd expect a ghost type being.

SPOILER OVER

I'll give this 3.5 stars because of some minor editing, choppy in the beginning with background information pouring out and disrupting the flow, and that ending that didn't sit right. And the odd thing is, throughout the story those around Rio are distrustful of Cass. They never opened up completely and accepted him. They were always a bit suspicious. So the ending should have had some acceptance of having Cass in their lives. It needed to happen, the clan and forming pack needed closure to Rio's suffering and a step towards healing. - Dan's Wife

WONDERFUL BOOK!

The content of this book seems to be a story of my life. I also went through a time where I was very down and negative. One day I decided to change my life by changing my thinking. I read books on attitude and listened to motivational tapes until I did indeed, change my thoughts and change my life. I also made a commitment years ago to dedicate my life to helping others realize that we create our own destinies. Jeff did a great job laying out the "lessons" it took me SO many years to learn, in one easy to read, motivational masterpiece that teaches "real" happiness. I HIGHLY recommend Attitude Is Everything!

Concise and very helpful!

Just the right dosage of why a positive attitude is that important and how to attain it! Simple, straight forward, and well written with very good picks of stories and sayings to illustrate his points! A great read that can be completed within two hours, though it will take much committment to put the teachings into practice and to re-read it regularly to fight against our inertia to change and improve. Highly recommended!

Jeff Keller is the Zen Master of Personal Achievement

This is a very easy-to-read book that packs a powerful punch. Jeff Keller has skipped over the fluff and delivers a very practical and insightful step-by-step recipe for expanding your vision of yourself and your world. If you follow Jeff's recommendations, and take notice of how he has applied these same principles in his own life, there is no limit to what you can accomplish. Thanks to his very persuasive pen, and his good dose of tough love, we all have access to solid principles of personal achievement that WORK! You'll want to grab this book and be sure to cancel all your appointments when it arrives. I'll definitely be recommending this little gem to all my coaching clients.

The next best thing to an 18-hour flight to the Far East could be viewing the 36 different spaces here that have China written all over them. Text becomes superfluous to the brilliantly colored photographs (from Michael Freeman) that show personal and commercial interiors in, for the most part, New York, London, California, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. In fact, this resembles "lifestyles of the rich and famous," because many of the antiques and accessories pictured, from Tibetan carpets to Ming furniture, are now astronomically priced. Nonetheless, the more than five periods--Ming and Qlng, Chinoiserie Old and New, the new Shanghai style, and China Modern--though not radically distinctive, do showcase a new way to look at design, with balance, order, and harmony valued above all else. And in conclusion, journalist Leece tries to give tips, through product photographs, about achieving a China-style look. Barbara Jacobs

Lovely Photos, So-so Text

This is an enjoyable book introducing many different places -- mostly residential, but also some hotels and restaurants -- with a variety of Chinese designs.
The best part of the book is the photography by Michael Freeman. In most of the rooms he captures a feeling that it's lived in, a part of someone's daily life. Some books I own on Asian design don't have this quality: the rooms either appear too staged or the photographer gives them a sterile feeling. I could recommend this book on the photos alone.
The text is not quite up to standards of the photos, but it's acceptable. The author, Sharon Leece, obviously knows her subject, but she often lapses into blurb-style. For example, she writes on one house: "The words colourful, extravagent, and opulent can hardly begin to describe the palatial home of Contrasts Gallery owner Pearl Lam."
Another fun aspect of this book is that the places it showcases aren't just the homes of wealthy individuals. You see not only the more than 13,000 square foot Manhattan apartment of Chinese antiquities dealer Robert Hatfield Ellsworth, with its numerous expensive Chinese antiques, but you also get to see how some people with obviously much smaller budgets still managed to design their home with a unique Chinese flavor.

Lovely book for collectors and anyone interested in China

Reading this was a pleasant surprise, but what impresses most about this beautifully-designed book is not that it opens up all the elements of Chinese style and how its used in modern living -which it does in a interesting way.
But that it includes homes of most of the foremost China antiques dealers/collectors in the world.
Probably for the first time ever in print, we can see photographs of the homes of China experts Grace Wu Bruce in Hong Kong, Robert Ellsworth in New York (his is the biggest single apartment in Manhattan, apparently) and Kai-Yin Lo in Hong Kong.
That this book features their private homes shows they must have given their backing to this book - making it more than another stunning Style book.
Overall, this is a luxurious, well put-together book with an
interesting selection of beautiful apartments from many Cities. Recommended for anyone interested in things Chinese.

Rich, but in the same kind of room

A wide range of (mostly) rather luxurious rooms filled with everything and anything Chinese. But you won't find much of authentic traditional chinese homes here (and indeed the dustjacket clearly announces this). Although the rooms are sometimes packed with Chinese things, they almost all still feel western/international/chinese, mixed in different proportions. That said, the photos are great and it's a joy to visit all these apartements and houses and select your favourites. Since each place only gets two (or three) spreads generally, a string of different locations can be presented and you're invited to more rooms and settings than anyone can digest at one read-through. And that's great, you can return again and again to this very rich book.
