The Jew's Harp is a very interesting novel, following this silver musical instrument from the mid-1800's to the current day. The characters are intriguing, the timelines accurate, the story interesting and well tied together.

I found the tie-in to the Tularosa Basin and the Manhattan Project very interesting. It is not often folks know where we are and what we are about. Just FYI, the Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma) here and across the central southwestern desert is best know for it's spines, or horns, across it's back and sides, and not it's sex life.

This is a great question book to learn about & review Pediatrics.

7 Infectious Diseases
8 Injuries, Poisoning, and Substance Abuse
9 Critical Care and Pediatric Therapeutics
10 Case Diagnosis and Management
11 Practice Test 162 questions (to be completed in 4 hours)

The exam taking skills in the first chapter provide good tips on multiple choice test taking skills that anyone can use. The questions in the proceeding chapters are challenging and appropriate for MS3 and MS4 students, Residents, and Pediatricians. The explanations include references from Pediatrics text books and guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics. After completing some questions in UWORLD I find the questions in this book MORE challenging. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because I feel that Medical Students would benefit more if the explanations to the questions were more thorough and provided additional information about each medical condition, provide additional information as to why the wrong answers are wrong, and to avoid using medical terms that students are not yet familiar with. Despite the challenge I still think this is a great resource to for the Pediatric shelf exam & Step 2.

Great delivery and service on amazon's part. The book is good as far as the explanations go, but they give the wrong answers to the questions! Even when the explanation completely contradicts what the "correct" answer stated. It's happening pretty frequently in ch 4, to the point where I'm feeling uncomfortable about continuing to use it. We'll see how chapter 5 is.

Truman referred to it as a “Police Action,” but 5,720,000 Americans who served in Korean have never forgotten what it was about and that it was much more than just a “Police Action.” They understand that it was an all-out war, and one of the bloodiest in American history. It involved over 20 countries of the United Nations that joined with the United States to save the South Koreans from annihilation and the tyranny of the communist countries, such as Russia and North Korea.

On July 27, 1953, an armistice was signed and today South Korea remains as a free nation and one of the strongest and wealthiest countries in Asia. This book is to help Americans understand what the war was all about and describe one soldier’s experience and opinion of the conflict.

About the Author

Dennis J Ottley was born on January 28, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lived in many different towns throughout his childhood, but his family finally settled in Evanston, Wyoming. He quit high school at the start of his senior year and joined the 141st Tank Battalion of the Wyoming National Guard. About the same time he met a girl who he became very serious about and married on July 26, 1950.

When the Korean War started, Dennis’ guard unit was activated in September of 1950. In July 1951 Dennis was selected for overseas duty and was sent to Korea to help form a new tank company. After serving almost ten months in Korea as a tank gunner and tank commander, he was discharged on May 29, 1952.

Upon arriving home in Evanston, he immediately went back to work to make a new life for himself and his family. After a few years he became highly involved in his community and ended up serving three 4-year terms as a member of the Evanston City Council and three 4-year terms as Mayor.

Dennis was in business for himself most of his adult life and retired from his real estate agency at the end of 2013 at the age of 81. After raising four sons and 64 years of marriage, he and his wife Sandy still live in Evanston.
