I have read Harris's other book on landing page optimization and this popped up I knew it was a must have. I have been in the eCommerce field now for about 10 years. This is not one of those books filled with filler text and upsells left and right. It is clear and right to the point which I'm sure anyone running eCommerce knows we don't have tons of time to spare. This is not a "what's hot right now" book, rather a long term success strategy that has been tested for ecommerce websites.

This book is what I would say is the Tony Robbins approach to eCommerce page/business optimization really breaking down the process not just for your individual pages but for your business and understanding the why.

Well, firstly I've found weird a 5 star from 50 persons.
Then I download the sample, at the final of the introduction there's a message entitle "Action step 1:" to download a free copy of "marketing optimization workbook". I've tried to download, you are directed to a non working site.
Then I tried to find it on the net, and I found some material from Alex Harris to download, but no "maketing optimization workbook".
Then I treid to download the material that was available to download, another book, to download I needed to give my email. I received an email with some links, I've follow the links and need to give my email again and receive another email with the same links.
One of the links leads to a site classified as a malware site, another to a page where you need to $8.00 a minute from Alex' assistance.
The book seems to be just a bait to more expenses

Wonderful refrenece book

I just returned from a kayaking trip in the Johnston Straight just East of North Vancouver Island known as the inside passage. We had first hand views of the Orcas. This book was used as a reference manual to identify some of the whales. It has wonderful reference pictures of the known pods (families) in the area. It goes into great detail on their eating habits, language, and family history. It also explains their social behavior, and the differences between the pods. It is a wonderful book full of pictures, and details.

A well-deserved second edition to an essential work

Killer Whales (2000), written by killer whale experts John Ford, Graeme Ellis, and Ken Balcomb, provides an overview of the three "eco-types" of killer whales in the Pacific Northwest: the offshore, transient (mammal-eating), and resident (fish-eating) populations, with a focus on the latter type - transients are covered in the companion book Transients (1999), by the first two authors of this book. The book is divided into five chapters which describe the various differences between the three populations (e.g. appearance, diet, social structure, dialects, and occurrence), detail the social structure of resident orcas (from matrilines to communities), tell you where you can see killer whales, presents a photographic catalogue of resident killer whales to allow you to individually identify them in the field, and finally covers conservation concerns (including the availability of food, pollutants, and vessel disturbance) and their future prospects. "Sidebars" or interludes cover such topics as telling apart the three eco-types, how to differentiate males from females, and genetics. The book includes a number of (mainly) black-and-white photographs, several maps, a glossary, and a bibliography. Along with Transients (1999), this work offers a great resource for those wishing to learn more about killer whales in the Pacific Northwest.

This book, the second edition for Ellis, Balcomb and Ford, is a beautiful book for anyone interested in whales, their habitat and their behaviour. Focusing on the Orcas of the Pacific Northwest, this book details their lives from what they eat, to their social habits. It includes a wonderful photo chart of all the Northwest Orcas still alive when this book was published. It is a bit heavy reading, with many complex scientific terms. I would not reccommend for children, but if you know anyone with a facination with whales, this book will it into an obsession.

Thank you Littles!

My son, who HATES to read by himself loves the Littles. He is reading these books at school with his teacher, and he made an off-hand commnet about it on the way home. So, I immediately got on Amazon and bought three Littles books. He was SO EXCITED to see them arrive. And - now he is reading on his own after homework is done. Without us prompting him. And gave me a full report on his reading. Well written books, that hold the attention of my 6 year old? Im so there!!! Love the Littles!!! And now a huge fan!

Too much is out of date to recommend

As a nursing instructor I was disappointed on how much of this book is out of date. Many chapters in this 2012 book have references no newer than 2007. A particularly egregious example is the chapter on handheld computers. It uses the out-of-date term of PDA and is about the use of Palm and Windows CE handhelds. The existence of iOS or Android smartphones and tablets is completely missing. A few chapters are updated but it looks like most are not. The book uses a very unhelpful diagram/model to organize the content. Reading this book was like going back in time five years due to numerous outdated references. Writing a nursing informatics text is difficult with technology changing so quickly. The authors did not seem to make much effort to rectify that with this second edition. There are better choices for textbooks on nursing informatics.

Wordy, hard to read

I must say that nursing informatics doesn't much interest me, so that may bias my review of this book. I'm required to take a course in informatics as part of my BSN. Our professor informed us that this was the only textbook on informatics, which was why we were required to purchase it for the class.

I can hardly keep my eyes open every time I try to read a chapter, it's so dry and abstract. It's not that concepts aren't interesting, they actually are. Use of information systems in nursing and the health sciences, is absolutely the wave of the future. And looking at nurses and "information processors" and "knowledge workers" is creative and useful. But the book seems to try and use lofty academic language, big words, passive voice, and overly formal descriptions to describe simple concepts, making the reading boring and abstract. Also, when new terms are introduced, the authors don't plainly define the terms...They give long winded histories of how the terms are used, how they evolved to their current state, and what someone said about the terms, but they rarely come out and say "this is what we mean by this term". So I find that if I really want to know what a term means, I have to translate it into plain words so that it makes sense.

My professor has the previous (2009) edition and had given us study questions from that edition, without realizing that some of the topics were no longer mentioned in the latest edition. So I got online and looked up some of the answers on google books (previous edition). I was surprised to find many of the same concepts discussed in clearer language, with less wordy definitions. Not sure why you would want to take nice clear writing and muddy it all up, but that's apparently what happened. Maybe it didn't sound academic enough?

My motivation for writing a review is to encourage folks to buy the 2009 edition. If you aren't required to purchase the newest edition, I'd consider at least getting the previous edition first...it seems to be a much better read. Or you could get the 2009 edition on kindle and this edition in paper form. I would most definitely not recommend buying this book unless you are required to, or are passionate about nursing informatics and want a more current description of it in book form. But seriously, if we are talking about currency of technology, data, and information systems, why not just use the internet, proceedings of conferences and peer reviewed articles?

This is an awful book. I am truly amazed that the authors were able to make a book so long with so little to say. Like a bad scholarly article, the only interesting points in the book are quotes from other sources. You're probably looking at this book because you have to have it for class, so try to share a copy with friends to lessen the expense.

This graphic novel certainly took me on an emotional roller coaster, which wasn't terribly shocking considering the fact that Dahmer himself and the events of his life take you on one as well. Parts of it were just riveting, others oppressively sad. Some things I liked, others not so much, particularly the parts that actually had very little to do with Dahmer. Despite its flaws, I planned on giving this a better review, but unfortunately something at the very end of the book kept me from doing so, and while the majority of my issues is with Backderf's perspective and opinions on JD as a person and not with the book itself, for me, his opinions tainted his storytelling and ought to have been omitted.

I'll start with the positives, as there are some. It's well written and a decent length. The artwork isn't the best ever but for this story it works, particularly in the drawings of Dahmer alone driving and drinking, in the woods, and in his room. The loneliness and depression that plagued Jeff his entire life was almost insidious in nature, as if something sinister latched onto him and exploited his weaknesses, and somehow Backderf really succeeds in capturing this visually in those specific moments of the book, and has a much stronger and more lasting impact than much of the written dialogue, some of which seemed pretty irrelevant to me. It only makes sense that Backderf includes some of his own individual experiences growing up, but I sort of felt they just weren't necessary. Perhaps he wanted to emphasize the stark contrast between his young life and Dahmer's, but those parts were of least interest to me.

It should certainly be noted that Backderf is EXTREMELY bold for referring to himself as Dahmer's friend, which he states frequently. He refers to some of the other oddball social outcasts as Jeffrey's "friends", which I felt was almost implying that Backderf considered himself a better friend to Jeff than them. If his and his friends' treatment of JD constitutes friendship, then I have never had any friends and nor would I want any. Some of the writing comes off as a bit pretentious and made me wonder if Backderf was merely exploiting the fact that he knew Jeff for his own personal gain, but much of that I would've been willing to overlook.

My problem lies toward the end of the book, in 20 pages of sources and information on Dahmer's life. Some of this seemed kind of bizarre to me anyway, that he would include something like this. But all of it was fine until he decides to include some of his own personal views on Dahmer, with him specifically stating that "...the only tragedy is that Dahmer didn't have the courage to put a gun to his head and end it". Obviously spoken by someone who has clearly never had suicide touch his life in any way, how fortunate for him. I lost a friend to suicide several years ago, and when something as devastating as suicide leaves some kind of stamp on your life, words like Backderf's really sting. I don't care who someone is, what crimes they've committed, and how grotesque and ghastly their crimes may be (and in this case they certainly were) - saying that about anyone is WRONG. Putting a gun to your head is neither courageous nor is it cowardly, it is what it is and it's terrible, and no one should die that way. Most people would probably say this is such an inconsequential part of the book, but I couldn't help but be bothered by it and it shouldn't have been included anyway.

It's good for a one-time read, and it'll have this surreal effect on you after you read it that just kind of lingers for a while. Some of it was very strange for me because I was raised in Akron and the places Backderf included were all too familiar to me - Summit Mall, the old Polsky's department store (the one downtown is now part of the university), and the house itself has an unsettling heaviness when you drive past it. Overall it's a great graphic novel that's worth reading. If you're like me and you're more interested in the psychology of Dahmer and Jeff as a person, I'd highly recommend The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer by Brian Masters.

Be prepared to start all over again when you finish it

I remember reading a page on the net several years ago, which was a cartoon detailing a fishing trip with Jeffrey Dahmer and a friend when they were teenagers. On this trip, young Jeff caught a sunfish and, instead of throwing it back as his friend asked, he proceeded to chop it to death with a pocket knife.

I have always remembered this, but have never found the page again.

Just this past Sunday I found out it was part of an actual book called My Friend Dahmer, written by Derf Backderf. So I checked out the Amazon Look Inside bits, and was interested enough to get a copy. It arrived Monday, and I've been through it twice since then.

It's not so much the drawing style, which is basically R Crumb, but the haunting story it tells of Dahmer before he became a serial killer, when he was a child and something might have been done for him, if the adults around him had only looked up from their own self-absorption and seen there was something terribly terribly wrong. Backderf makes no bones about his sympathy (pity, really) for Dahmer ending when Dahmer committed his first murder; however, he also draws an unflinching picture of Dahmer's loneliness, his isolation from others and from his family, and his (Backderf's) own participation in making Dahmer feel less than human.

I'm a contemporary of the kids depicted in this book -- I graduated high school in 1975, they graduated in 1978. I was an outcast, and was bullied about as badly as Dahmer. I was pretty much ignored by my parents and the teachers. But why didn't I become a serial killer? Why am I reasonably well adjusted, and have been a contributing member of society for lo, these 40 some odd years since graduation? What makes one person become an average wife/mom/worker bee, and one person the worst serial killer in recent history?

I think those are all questions that keep me turning back to this book, and that make me recommend it to all y'all out there. There are no graphic depictions of murder, death or gore -- a couple of illustrations of roadkill and one incident which shows that Dahmer, even in his descent into madness, still retained a core of humanity and kindness many "normal" people don't have. At least until he finally crossed the line and became a murderer.

Well worth the money, well worth the read.

Poorly Imagined

A fun graphic novel, but not a particularly revealing portrayal of Jeffrey Dalmer. I expected more from the rave reviews this book received, but what emerges for me at the end of reading this book is a cliche:

1. a group of boys befriend a school doof.
2. Their bond is in parts sympathy and in other parts a shared complicity in the doof's amusing/humiliating/weird behavior.
3. Until, they realize he's more than a little weird; they boot him; their lives diverge, and years later...
4. Dahmer

The real point of interest here is that the weird friend did turn out to be a serial killer. That **should have been** the focus of this book. What's it like to be just one of the billions of people on earth who's had a weird, out of it friend, and then one day wake up and have that friend be a PSYCHO KILLER? What were these guys doing with their lives when they found out? What did they tell their wives? What did they fantasize about their high school selves? What did they discover about themselves? Friendship, even the most vapid, ambivalent ones are based on reciprocity and commonality. What did these normal, dorky dudes have in common with Jeffrey Dahmer after all?

Overall a 10/10 from me and a must get if you like Tomb Raider or just appreciate good art.

I would like to start by saying that I love the Tomb Raider games and that this art book was everything a fan of the series could hope for. It is 192 pages and loaded with content. Along with the pictures there is a description describing what the pictures on that page are and something about it. I cant say I really have any complaint with this art book and that Titan Books has done it again by making another amazing art book. The contents are:

Foreword- This section is 4 pages and basically is just the Directors talking about the new game and what they hoped to achieve with it.

Intro- This section is 2 pages and just briefly covers the story of the new game.

Characters- This section is 56 pages and is where the book really starts to get good. It covers characters from Lara, Jonah, Jacob, and plenty of other friends and villains you will meet in the new game. There's also everything from soldiers with guns down to knights with swords and shields. Also there are the wildlife creatures such as the bears, deer, and more. The detail in each of the drawings was amazing and although almost every single picture was a frontal shot they were still all good. For each character you get to see them wearing different outfits and such. Each character has description telling you something about them. My favorites form this section had to be the deathless ones and the flame soldier both of which I have included pictures of.

Weapons and Props- This section is 14 pages and shows you the different gear that Lara will have as well as some guns. At the end of this section are some murals which seem like something you would see in old churches. Its cool to see old drawings like the murals compared to what we have now days. As for the weapons and such it shows some different arrows Lara uses each with different tips and feathers on them and some even have fire tips. It also has a few different bows she uses. As for the weapons there aren't to many and it basically shows the same version of a gun but with different mods on them. I counted them all up and there are ten guns in all and each has different mods Lara can put on them. An example is the Ak-47 which shows the regular version and then one that Lara modded by duct taping an extra clip onto another clip for faster reloads as well as wrapping up the grips to avoid slippage. I wasn't to impressed with this section but I wasn't really expecting much weapon wise other than the bow mostly.

Locations- 110 pages. This section is where the book shines. It shows so many different locations and Lara going on her adventures. The detail is outstanding and there is so much to look at. With each new scene there is a description about it. There are scenes of everything from Lara rappelling down into a tomb, her sneaking around tombs, trying to get past treacherous waters, climbing mountains, avoiding avalanches, standing in front of a massive bear, exploring abandoned buildings, her swimming underwater, getting chased by a helicopter, and the list just goes on and on. I really enjoyed this section and this was a perfect representation on what Tomb Raider is all about.

Acknowledgements- 1 page. This section shows all the names of the men and women who spent their time making the wonderful art for this book and the game. I would also like to mention that every picture in the book says who made it. This is a nice way to see what the different artists role was and to appreciate each one for their works.

Overall this art book was everything I had hoped for and more. The detail was amazing and all the pictures was everything you would expect to see in Tomb Raider. I never mentioned this yet but the book is a nice hardcover and made very well. The dust jacket looks gorgeous and the actual covers of the book are just plain black with a tiny silver picture of Lara on the cover. The black front and back isn't the greatest but the dust jacket more than makes up for it, and since that covers up the black covers its no big deal. Overall a 10/10 from me and a must get if you like Tomb Raider or just appreciate good art.

Putting the 'Tomb' back in Tomb Raider

Just like the previous artbook, it's filled with plenty of beautiful concept art of characters, environments and props, complete with commentary that talks about the design process. There are major spoilers in the book so do not go through the book before finishing the game.

The artworks are very detailed and printed huge. They mostly digitally painted, like any other game artbooks, but is able to retain the painterly look for many of the scenes paintings. There aren't much game screenshots.

As the art director Brenoch Adams said, he wants to put the 'Tomb' back in Tomb Raider. If that's so, it's a job well done in terms of the look and feel.

I like Lara Croft's updated look and the several outfit changes throughout the game. Other character designs are alright, but nothing too out of the world, after all it's still based on the so called real world. The more interesting designs are the Deathless Ones.

I can't help but compare it to the Uncharted series. The content definitely feels like there are some similarities to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, one of my favourite games all time. There are the ice mountains and mysterious caverns. However, the art direction for Tomb Raider is visually darker. The colours are muted and there's use of a lot of darks and shadows. The good thing is not all details are lost into the shadows. Overall, it's just a different feel to Uncharted although you know that both are adventure exploratory games in the same genre.

The first artbook for the reboot Tomb Raider series, Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival, brings a welcome update to the art direction. That is a great book and at the time I'm writing this, that book is already out of print and selling at higher than normal prices. So yes, the game is popular and the artbook as well. If you want to get this book, get it early.

Recommended to fans of the game, artbook and concept art lovers.

Okay, but a little disappointing.

This is a nice artbook generally speaking, but I was actually a little disappointed with most of the art pieces in the book. Most of the art is environments presented in muted color palettes, and strangely enough all the environments kind of look the same. What I mean is the concept art in this book doesn't really look much like how many of the environments in the game ended up looking. While glancing through the book, I had a difficult time discerning which part of the game each art piece represented, a problem I did not have with the artbook for the 2013 reboot. It's still a nice collectible for the Tomb Raider fan. I just wasn't as happy with it as I was with the artbook for the last game.

Wrong title BUT GREAT book

The correct title is:

Digital Designing With Programmable Logic Devices

This is possibly the best book I have purchased on this subject.

It contains a thorough coverage of logic design with Finite State Machines. Examples include various

Programmable Logic Devices from PAL16L8 to 10R8 and even ROMS.

Introduction to micro code and CISC. Address Bus Decoding is covered towards the end as well.

All in all a wonderful book - and found just in time given my interest in digital design. I am probably

going to read it a second time, before delving into my own projects.

In short you should come away from this confident enough to purchase a CPLD/FPGA board and

start experimenting.

However her passions which come out as popular subjects in her sci-fi, supernatural, romance series are traveling (the world and through time), hauntings, werewolves, vampires, voodoo, ESP and always looking on the bright side of life (and death).

All I can say is WOW. This was even better than the first book. It takes you through all of the emotions. Would recommend this book to all of my friends.

If you want a really bad story go for it.

This entire book is all over the place and has way too much going on. Then to make it the writers have the 17 year old heroine raped by the wolf they want to convince you is her true love. The guy is hunting in wolf form changes back to human attacks and forces himself on her. After the first 4 times he gets off then Bianca decides it's okay. There was no way it wasn't rape and it was gross. Declan is a low life in every way but try to make it seem like he should really be with Bianca even while she was married to a wonderful guy who was killed. Bianca is the first female wolf of her race and the last circulator. This makes her barren, she is forced into all the decisions that are made. I kept wanting her to be the one to die. Any girl that is that whiny and that stupid is so shallow who cares what happens to her!

Fantastic

Wonderful supernatural love story! This book is full of grit, fun, sex & action. I didn't know werewolves could be so interesting! B's whole ancestral history is fascinating. Its a long story, but I couldn't put it down. I'm now reading Sororate & can't wait for the next in her series! Thank you K.R. Smith!
