About the Author
James W. Fraser is Professor of History and Education at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University and Senior Vice President for Programs at the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. He is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of education and teacher education. His most recent book is Preparing America’s Teachers: A History.

Great look into k-12 (some 16) education- recommended read

Great book looking at the history of k-12 (and come higher) education in the U.S. I read this book for a class, but have gone back and used it since with my research, and it is very easy to follow. My focus is on higher education, but it is important to understand the K-12 system. I wouldn't say it is the most in-depth read, but combined with other books which will go into more detail, it is very helpful to provide an overview and understand many things which shaped education in this country.
I bought the book used and it came in perfect condition (other than those pesky 'used' stickers which never seem to come off cleanly), and the shipping was excellent. I have bought a great deal of academic books through amazon for classes and research, and they have the best deals and shipping is usually great (plus it's a lot easier than going around to different book stores or websites).
