One of the best books on those sexy 1960's "femme fatales" of movies and TV

The femme fatales and bad girls of classic Hollywood and other cinemas are one of my favorite film topics, and Douglas Brode's written one of the best books so far on the subject (better, in my opinion, for example than Tom Lisanti's earlier "Film Fatales", or Tom Turtu's "Bad Girls", which is really just a collection of images). Brode provides, in this 522-page tome, short biographies of over 100 actresses who worked in the action, fantasy and horror genres during the 1960's and 1970's, specializing in the "femme fatale" character type, accompanying each entry with several B&W photographs of each subject, many of them full-page and many of them also rare. (Note: a number of these photos feature the actresses in question topless or even nude. If you're interested in this particular subject, it almost certainly won't bother you to see topless/nude photos, of course, but I put this in as a general caution anyway.) I only find two drawbacks to this book, both of them relatively minor: there are no color photos except on the front and back covers, and one of my favorite 1960's actresses, the eminent German/Austrian actress Senta Berger, who had several important femme-fatale roles (notably in the Matt Helm film "The Ambushers") was unaccountably left out. That being said, this is a really good book on a favorite cinema topic from a publisher, Bear Media, that has established a reputation in recent years for publishing top-notch books on entertainment-industry topics that don't often get a lot of coverage from major publishers.

love to hate

You have to love them! Have to hate them? No! Not when they look like that! Brode's book puts together all the best of the baddest in one place, and it's simply a joy to read. I can't emphasize this enough: you'll love to hate the ladies in this book!
